Welcome to D-Rotate

The D-Rotate is a handy tool that allows you to quickly and easily make a 3D scan of a hand with your smartphone for the production of a hand orthosis.

The D-Rotate is designed to be easily placed on a desk and can be powered via a USB connection, for example from a laptop.

Thanks to Bluetooth, the scanning app starts automatically when you press the button and stops once the entire hand has been scanned. We recommend our own app, but it is also possible to use other scanning apps.

The D-Rotate is compatible with iPhone 10 and newer, but other smartphones can also be used.

Technology

With the rapid developments in smartphone technology, such as the TrueDepth camera, technology does not stand still.

Developers use this technology to create apps that we as engineers can put to great use.

However, properly scanning a hand requires certain skills.

To make this technology accessible to everyone, we have developed the D-Rotate.

For whom

The D-Rotate is especially useful for people who make hand orthoses, such as orthopedic technologists. Hand therapists can also use it to provide sustainable solutions for their clients. This is because the D-Rotate is very easy to use.

Compact, easy and fast, that is the D-Rotate

How does the D-Rotate work?

With its compact size of 12x12x10 cm, you can easily place the D-Rotate on any desk.

Attach the "arm" to the motor, this is easily done through a magnetic closure.

Use the table clamp to prevent the D-Rotate from shifting.

The D-Rotate requires power, which can be supplied via a USB output from a laptop or 220V USB adapter.

Place your smartphone with a scanning app in the holder.

The D-Rotate is equipped with Bluetooth (compatible with apps that support it).

Pairing with the phone is required for the first time use.

Once this is complete, the D-Rotate is ready to use!

1 push of a button!

Incl. compact carrying case easy to carry

Innovation

The D-Rotate consists of various parts. Because the D-Rotate has just hit the market (mid-2024), we continue to develop and are open to ideas. Do you have a question or idea? Please contact us via the contact form.

App

There are several iPhone apps available through the Apple Appstore. Below we discuss the apps that we tested with the D-Rotate.

Snugfit O&P app

The D-Rotate works best with the Snugfit O&P app from Xyken.com. We have had a personal app made. This allows you to 3D scan a hand. The scan can be uploaded to a computer for further editing. The costs are €2 per scan. More information via the contact form.

SureScan app

The SureScan app from Xyken.com can also be used. The part to be scanned is difficult to set up perfectly, but it works well as a standalone. The Bluetooth does work here. The app costs $19.99 per month per installation, but it allows you to make as many scans as you want.

Tips & Tricks

One-handed 3D scanning requires more than just pointing and scanning. Our tips & tricks will help you make a good scan of the hand.

  • Tape the hand! With medical tape you can exert certain forces but also make the skin tight and even.

  • A 3D scanner is a scanner that scans the surface but does not see whether it is hard or soft! Most people have soft tissue problems, especially in the webbing between the thumb and index finger.
By sticking a flexible (medical) tape in between you can tighten the skin nicely, which improves the fit of the brace.

  • With CMC osteoarthritis we want the thumb joint to become a kind of “C”. By holding the tip of the thumb against the tip of the index finger, a circle is created. The distal part of Dig 1 then comes against the distal Dip of Dig 2. But if you scan now, and know that there will be play around the thumb, the brace does not restrict sufficiently!
Therefore, make sure that there is approximately 6 mm between the fingertips of an adult person, for example take a pen that is clamped between the fingers but removed before scanning.

  • With hyperextension of the MP1 joint we have to be careful with what we just wrote, it can happen that a lot of force exertion causes the MP1 joint to go into hyperextension, we don't want to scan this either! Using a tape around the thumb that ensures that MP1 is pulled dorsally can provide a solution.
